The news today suggests that Postal Workers are to vote on whether to strike in the Autumn over the privatisation plans for Royal Mail.

The postal sector has a strong union presence with the Communication Workers Union being the key union. Like with any strike action, the Union must call a ballot of its members to determine whether they support strike action. The Union spokesman has said that he believes that a ballot will be inevitable. It will then be down to the members.

Some of you may recall a few years back there were successful challenges to ballots called by the union on technicalities involving the balloting process. Trade union law around this area is very complex.
