equal payAn equal pay test case has been brought by 414 employees of Asda. The Claimants who are mostly women assert that their store roles are of equal value to higher paid positions in the Asda distribution centres which are held by mainly men.

The press reports are that the case is before the Tribunal over the next few months. If successful the employees could be entitled to some back pay for the difference in earnings. Making the assumption that a similar model exists at other supermarket chains a successful claim could also leave them open to similar claims.

(Our news section brings you the latest news on published judgments and cases which are all in the public domain. We only comment on these published cases and not cases of our actual clients. Publication of the case or comments is a public service designed to make the courts and tribunals more accessible and ensures justice is seen to be done. This is why court and tribunal judgments are published publicly.)
