employment solicitor rushdenNew laws will come into force on 1st October 2014 concerning military reservists.  The statutory qualifying period will be removed where the dismissal is connected with the employee’s membership of the Reserve Forces such as the Territorial Army, Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Auxiliary Air Force and Royal Marines Reserves. The statutory qualifying period for unfair dismissal will be removed for employees whose employment terminates after 1st October 2014.

A new payment scheme will also be introduced from 1st October 2014 to make payments to small and medium-sized employers of reservists who are called out for service.  This will be in addition to the award currently available in respect of replacement costs incurred as a result of the reservist’s absence.
